E-Feds 101
Welcome to the world of e-feds — a unique fusion of professional wrestling and creative writing. This page is designed to explain what e-feds are, how they work, and what makes the Fans Wrestling League (FWL) different. Whether you're a curious visitor, a potential handler, or just exploring what this universe is all about, this guide will walk you through the basics and beyond.
From origin stories to character-driven storytelling, this is your crash course in how fantasy wrestling thrives through imagination, collaboration, and a love for the business.
What is a E-Fed?
An e-fed — short for electronic federation — is a fan-driven, online wrestling promotion where the action takes place through storytelling, not actual competition. Participants (often called handlers) create original characters and contribute to a shared universe through promos, segments, and creative collaboration.
E-feds originated in the early days of the internet, with communities forming on message boards and email chains in the mid-1990s. Over time, they evolved into a thriving subculture — blending elements of professional wrestling, roleplaying, serialized fiction, and longform drama.
Every match, rivalry, and championship moment is scripted as part of an ongoing narrative — making e-feds more like a digital wrestling television series than a game. It's a place where writers, wrestling fans, and creators come together to bring their visions to life.
How Do I Create a Character?
Creating a wrestler for an e-fed is where the fun truly begins. Your character is your voice, your story, and your presence in the ring. Some feds allow the use of real-world wrestlers or celebrities — but here in FWL, we’re an original character–only league. That means every persona, promo, and rivalry is built from scratch, giving you complete creative freedom.
So, what makes a great character?
Start with the Foundation:
-
Name – Memorable, but believable. Could be flashy, gritty, or simple.
-
Look – Height, build, ring gear, face paint, tattoos, vibe — anything that paints a visual.
-
Hometown & Background – Every great wrestler comes from somewhere. Whether it’s Tokyo or Tulsa, it shapes who they are.
-
Alignment – Are they a hero (face), villain (heel), or walking the line (tweener)?
-
Style – Brawler, technician, high-flyer, powerhouse, unorthodox? Let the ring work reflect the personality.
Add the Flavor:
-
Gimmick – Not a costume, but a worldview. What makes your character tick? Are they a proud veteran? A masked avenger? A delusional narcissist?
-
Strengths & Weaknesses– Every legend has flaws. Give them emotional depth and vulnerability.
-
Finisher & Signature Moves – These are your exclamation points — the things fans remember.
In the FWL, characters evolve over time. Their stories are told through rivalries, alliances, betrayals, promos, and Supercard moments — all driven by the handlers themselves. You control your character’s voice, actions, and trajectory. The staff may guide the larger narrative direction, but it’s your writing and creativity that brings your wrestler to life. Here, your character doesn’t sit on the sidelines — they are the story.
What Kind of Characters Are You Looking For?
FWL thrives on original, character-driven storytelling. We’re looking for wrestlers with strong identities — not just flashy gimmicks or parody acts. Whether your character is gritty and grounded or eccentric and theatrical, what matters most is that they feel believable in the world we’re building.
We value long-term arcs, emotional stakes, and creative consistency. If you’re here to develop a persona, tell compelling stories, and contribute to something bigger than just wins and losses — you’re speaking our language.
How Do E-Feds Work?
While all e-feds share a passion for wrestling-inspired storytelling, not all of them operate the same way. Over time, different formats have evolved — each offering its own approach to how stories are told and outcomes are decided. Here’s a breakdown of the most common types:
-
Angle-Based E-Feds
-
In an angle fed, match results and storylines are determined by the creative team behind the scenes — much like a real-world wrestling promotion. The focus is on long-term storytelling, character development, and collaborative arcs. Promos and segment ideas can influence direction, but it's not about winning — it’s about contributing to the show.
-
-
Roleplay-Based (RP) E-Feds
-
In RP feds, participants write promos in a competitive format. The winner of a match is usually decided by a judging team based on writing quality, creativity, and storytelling. RP feds can be intense and competitive, with weekly or biweekly writing deadlines.
-
-
Hybrid E-Feds
-
Hybrid feds blend the two styles — allowing match outcomes to be influenced by both promos and pre-planned storylines. Some hybrid feds judge key matches while scripting others based on angle-driven plans.

How Do I Join the FWL?
Fans Wrestling League is a curated, story-first e-fed — which means roster spots are limited and entry is competitive. We're not a free-for-all. We're building a universe where every character matters, and every storyline has weight.
To be considered, you'll need to fill out a Character Application Form that outlines your wrestler’s name, background, style, and personality. We're looking for originality, commitment to storytelling, and a strong sense of creative identity.
👉 Click here to apply for consideration.
Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance — but if you’re a fit for the world we’re building, we’ll reach out with next steps.
I Applied but Never Heard Back. Why?
We understand it can be frustrating not to receive a response, but FWL operates with a small staff and a selective roster. Due to the volume of applications, we receive, we're not able to provide individual feedback or responses to every submission.
If you didn’t hear back, it simply means your application wasn’t the right fit at this time.
You’re welcome to reapply in the future — especially if your character concept has evolved — but please do not spam applications. Repeated submissions without meaningful changes may result in a permanent blacklist from consideration.
We appreciate your interest and passion. If there’s a place for you in FWL, we’ll make it known.
